I. I don't even remember how to post fanart anymore! Or stop tinkering, as it's probably wonderfully apparent by the above. Commitment is scary.

....remember the days when I used to open photoshop and not weep from shame, horror, uncomfortable sensations down there? Man, I miss those.

Way back when I just started at BOOM!, one of my bosses let slip to the Disney editor that I'm a little bit of a fan when it comes to pulpy things of a photoshop persuasion, so he let me take a shot at grunging up an Incredibles cover. I had actually tried something similar a few years (O.o) before when I was with CEC:

...so it was a bit of a surreal kick to get a chance to try again. I didn't want to mention anything until I held the actual printed thing in my hand, what with being a very firm believer in The Universe Enjoys Rug Pulling, Long Walks on the Beach Principle.

Anyway. Um. Here. It was kind of crazy fun, I really miss doing stuff like this, so if you're in the comic store anytime soon, it's the retailer incentive cover (cover C) from last week's issue:

note: I did not draw this! I feel super bad if I in any way implied that I did! That's the fantastic GODLAND artist Tom Scioli. I just distressed the heck out of it and added the texture, fake page curls and stuff.

Look, I get that "Observe and Report" is a black comedy about unlikable people in a shit world. But if I hear one more review that describes Rogen's character as: "Ronnie is a casualty, too-of a broken family (his father is long gone, his mother a prodigiously sloppy drunk), some bad genes (he's on strong psychoactive meds), a gun culture, sexual frustration exacerbated by stacked blondes in short dresses, and the accumulating spiritual effects of working in a mall and eating fast food." i.e. a victim, and Faris' character, the stacked blonde in a short dress as: "a drug-abusing, amoral slut." i.e. "totally asking for it" I am going to scream.

It's a dude who totally buys into the machismo culture that is as toxic to men as it is relentlessly unavoidable for women. I get it. It's funny. But I'm tired of reading reviews that tell me it's okay to laugh at Brandi getting raped because Ronnie's just a sad victim of a culture gone haywire and she's just a slut, slattern, coked-up whore who was asking for it.

Eat me.

Got my books (King of Attolia, Young Miles, Empire of Ivory, Star Trek Corps of Engineers: Wounds, ABSOLUTELY NO COMICS), got my laptop, got my ticket, got my brother.

Now I just have to get on the damned plane.

You would think years of this would make me get the fuck over wrapping myself in a carapace of metal and rivets and hurtling through the sky but no. That would be sane.

Look, I already feel dirty posting scans from a company I now work for (if by "work" I mean "attempting to avoid sharp corners and walking in a straight line and trying, dear god to not blow anything up") but a) this was in the works and in the can long before I ever got here (so it is free of my tainted touch), but mostly b) seriously, look at this fricking thing:

What I spent my Sunday night/Monday morning flailing over (pretty base art by Chuck BB, naturally.)

When: Wednesday, Dec. 17, 8:00pm - till they kick us out!

Where: Meltdown Comics & Collectibles, 7522 Sunset Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90046

I got paid to put blood splatter (c/o sxc.hu, of course) on something. I feel a hint of human emotion creeping up from somewhere in the dark recess of my soul...

Was surfing Hype Machine to listen to music while stuck late at work tonight, and came across a recent live session Jessica Mayfield did at Have You Heard.

Jessica Lea Mayfield - a Have You Heard session

Guys. Guys. I can't deal. This chick is like, 18, tops, and her voice sounds so world weary and tired it almost hurts to listen to someone that worn without getting a little sleepy/weepy yourself. Take a listen to the versions of "Kiss Me Again" and "We've Never Lied," as well as the new-to-me, but absolutely fantastic "Willing to Give," along with everything else.

Don Cheadle Replaces Terrence Howard in Iron Man 2?

I.

Huh.

I mean yeah, T-How is kind of wacky with the babywipes and the weird passive chauvinism in interviews, but he sold Jim Rhodes, the years of Tony and Rhodey's friendship and yeah, no, I'm not going to lie, he's also kind of dreamy. And. Man. You don't really watch Iron Man for the plot, okay? That's what TDK was for. You watch Iron Man to see the characters interact and be awesome and stripperdesses and drunk Rhodey, okay? That is why you go and see Iron Man. Cheadle is awesome, I am a fan, but I've already got a Colonel Rhodes, people, and his hands are silky fucking smooth.

please let this be ala Kiss Kiss Bang Bang where they are floating Cheadle's name by to get T-How to drop the price, okay? Okay.

Also, wtf, wasn't Terrence on the ground floor of this thing? Before even Jon or Robert or anyone else signed up? Isn't he already signed for two movies along with the rest of the cast? This makes zero sense. Internet, explain thyself.

Well that lasted long:

I would also pray Lord that your reputation is involved in all that happens between now and November, because there are millions of people around this world praying to their God -- whether it's Hindu, Buddha, Allah -- that his [McCain’s] opponent wins for a variety of reasons.

And Lord I pray that you would guard your own reputation, because they’re going to think that their god is bigger than you, if that happens. So I pray that you would step forward and honor your own name in all that happens between now and Election Day.

I see what you did there Reverend Arnold Conrad! That's pretty nifty how you managed to willfully misinterpret not only three separate religions in one fell swoop (those brown people "gods" just all start to look alike after awhile, huh?), you did so in front of an already frenzied, embattled crowd just aching for a way to feel united again after their nominee showed the brief inkling of something resembling a conscience the night before! Nothing does the trick like turning the campaign into a gigantic "us vs. the scary brown world" metaphor, wrapped neatly with the threat of divine judgment. Impressive!

Thanks, thanks for that McCain campaign! For one, silly moment there, I actually thought you capable a modicum of common fucking decency. Oops, my bad.

(lol. "cum")

It's funny because it's true.

Except for the part where it's kind of just depressingly sad.

I am just. Guys. Guys. I'm kind of tired of people claiming Palin is "stupid" or at all oblivious to her distinct brand of ignorance. She's not stupid, she's not oblivious, she knows full well what she's doing, who she's speaking to and why.

Fanmix: Nobody Has to Stay
Fandom: Iron Man (movie, Pepper, Rhodey)
Wallpaper: 1152px × 864px
Notes: Made for [info]hegemony from a prompt at the Fandom Free For All. The prompt was Pepper/Rhodey, before during and after Tony's abduction.

Sidekick!OTPs are inherently bittersweet, which is half the fun. Mad thanks to [info]jamaillith for entertaining my lyric spam through the work week and giving me the break I needed to get into this thing, photoshop-wise (lesson learned: sometimes it's okay NOT to manipulate people on top of each other! who knew?)

during:
Maria Taylor - Xanax
Afraid when the phone rings / Another breath of life has ceased / It seems it's just lost so easily
Earlimart - We Drink On the Job
Our heads are set up and too tired as hell / But well, we still got a few stories to tell
The Mountain Goats - Have to Explode
Staring up up at the hundred-watt light that burns above / Name one thing about us two anyone could love
Sufjan Stevens - That Dress Looks Nice on You
When the world looks back / when the face looks after that / I can see a lot of life in you.

after:
Maria Taylor - One of the Shareholder
A regret, it's undetectable / It's a shy display, non-emotional / It's a siren, barely audible / But it's all right
Earlimart - It's OK To Think About Ending
Put it away, and take care of your heart / Just for a while, I'd seen you smile
The Mountain Goats - Old College Try
I want to say I'm sorry for stuff I haven't done yet / Things will shortly get completely out of hand
Sufjan Stevens - Size Too Small
All the surprises in a size too small / And what if I told you / I was still in love with this?

I needed to kick start my Photoshop habit, and nothing says "getting in the groove" like staying up until 4 am on a work-night photoshopping a fanmix for a fictional couple that have no basis in canon, right? Right!

(shush.)

Deleted Dubai Scene

Say it with me now: Tony, you dick.

EDIT: Access Hollywood finally put up they're own version. Slightly better quality, enough to see the lone dude in a speedo rocking out by his lonesome. I dig.

(though, not as much as the dude in the white suit humping air. <3 <3 <3)

Nguh. Time to put on pants and contemplate looking vaguely human for work.

Page 29 has a preview of the Trek poster(s) being given away at Comic Con this year. Paramount may not be doing a panel, but at least we've got our first glimpse of Saldana, Pine, Quinto and Bana in character.

Oh, and a The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Vol. III preview on page 34.

EDIT: Thanks to [info]tzikeh: Watchmen trailer is up.

EDIT DOS: YouTube version since EmpireOnline is being a little bitch.
